The Opportunity

We are seeking experienced and skilled operators to join our Transport Projects team as Specialist Operators.

This is an opportunity to contribute to the construction and maintenance of roads, bridges and drainage infrastructure across the MidCoast region. You will operate specialist plant and equipment and work as part of a supportive team delivering safe, efficient and high-quality outcomes for our community.

In this role, you will:

• Undertake road, bridge and drainage construction and maintenance activities.
• Safely operate specialist plant, equipment and tools, including graders, backhoes, loaders, excavators and dozers.
• Work across a range of locations and conditions, including areas involving pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
• Perform traffic control duties in accordance with approved traffic control plans.
• Follow Council’s work health and safety, environmental and operational procedures.
• Work effectively as part of a team, with minimum supervision when required.
• Maintain courteous and constructive relationships with members of the public, colleagues and external stakeholders.
• Record and provide information relevant to daily operations.
• Contribute to a positive, respectful and safety-focused workplace culture.

You are an experienced civil construction operator who takes pride in operating plant safely and delivering quality work. You will bring practical knowledge, sound judgement and a strong commitment to teamwork and community service.

What you'll bring

• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in road, bridge and drainage construction and maintenance.
• Extensive experience and demonstrated competency operating specialist plant in the civil construction industry, including graders, backhoes, loaders, excavators and dozers.
• A current Class C Driver Licence, with the ability to drive construction plant and trucks.
• A Heavy Combination (HC) Licence, required to tow trailers.
• A current approved Traffic Controller’s Card and Implement Traffic Control Plans Card, or equivalent qualifications.
• A completed WorkCover-accredited general construction induction course in NSW.
• A sound understanding of work health and safety procedures and the safe use of tools and equipment.
• The ability to work effectively in a team, work with minimum supervision and communicate respectfully with others.
• The ability to build constructive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• A commitment to Council’s values of wellbeing, integrity, sustainability and respect.

Salary: Commencing salary circa $65,290 - $78,350p.a. plus superannuation.(dependent on skills and experience)

Location: This position will be based at our Administration Centre in Yalawanyi Ganya at 2 Biripi Way, Taree. You may also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.

Tenure: Permanent, Full Time.
